P3 Biomechanics Lab Set to Open Summer 2019

Premier Pitching and Performance is excited to announce the installation of the P3 Biomechanics Lab, featuring an 8 camera markerless motion capture system from Simi. Simi is one of the most premier leaders in biomechanical analysis, and P3 is excited to partner with them as a “center of excellence” for world-class baseball training.

The Simi Shape 3D system (http://www.simi.com/en/products/movement-analysis/markerless-motion-capture.html) is truly in a class of its own. It was just added to the PGA Tour, featured at this year’s Masters and highlighted in an article from this weekend’s PGA Championship coverage (https://www.sportsvideo.org/2019/05/17/live-from-the-pga-championship-cbs-sports-tech-toys-include-simi-motion-capture-aerial-toptracer-4dreplay/) in New York.

Additionally, Simi is being used in multiple MLB stadiums and organizations for both pitching and hitting movement analysis. With plans to add even more MLB teams in 2020, it is clear that this is the technology of the future in baseball.

Since 2014, P3 has had an unwavering commitment to individualization. While some have gone back and forth on the importance of individualized training, we believe that this is the single most important aspect to creating the best training program for each athlete. This approach also places an emphasis on injury prevention. That type of world-class training requires a world-class assessment process, and the Simi system will allow us to achieve this process.

While the P3 Assessment will improve dramatically, this is not the only aspect of our program that will see benefits. Our staff is taking this opportunity to double down on continuing education. We must never stop learning, and capturing the movement patterns of hundreds of athletes a year will allow us to observe and react to the information that we are given. Performance, health and longevity will be at the forefront of what we work towards providing with this system.

It is our goal to be able to provide a “player profile” to each and every player that takes part in our program. These profiles will serve as a way to document and track the improvement that takes place over an athletes training career. These profiles will adapt to whatever level each athlete competes at, and could help with something as complicated as an arbitration case or with something as simple as improving a deceleration pattern in a youth athlete’s throwing motion.

We know that there are many places where athletes can choose to train, and we continue to be humbled by the amount of people who choose P3. We do not take that honor lightly, and hope that this investment into improving our program will help show that. The mission at P3 has never changed: get players better at the game that they love to play. We believe that this addition will allow us to do that at a level that has never before been achieved. Thank you for trusting us over the years and we look forward to helping improve this game in the years to come.
